Note: All positions are open to both qualified unemployed teachers and serving teachers who have acquired higher qualifications.

Job Summary

The incumbent shall provide effective and efficient leadership and management in all aspects of the school. He/she is the Chief Accounting Officer of the school and acts as Secretary to the School Board.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Administration
  • Lead the preparation, review and evaluation of the school’s strategic plan and annual operational plans, subject to approval by the School Board.
  • Prepare and compile the annual budget and submit it to the School Board for approval.
  • Prepare an annual budget and submit it to the School Board for approval.
  • Submit the school’s financial statements to the School Board for approval within three months after the end of each school year.
  • Supervise the maintenance of school records in accordance with regulations made under the Education Act.
  • Promote meaningful teaching and quality learning in the school in line with Ministry of Education and Training curriculum provisions.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of teachers and other staff reporting to the Principal.
  • Maintain discipline among teachers under his/her supervision in accordance with the disciplinary code of conduct.
  • Maintain discipline among learners in accordance with school regulations and the disciplinary code of conduct.
  • Provide accurate statistical returns to the Ministry of Education and Training within three months of the commencement of a new school year or as prescribed by regulations.
  • Promote harmonious public relations with the community and other stakeholders as required by social, economic and cultural norms.
  • Work closely with the Teaching Service Department in maintaining proper establishment of the school in accordance with Teaching Service Department policies and procedures.
  • Manage and effectively control the use of school funds.
Teaching

The Principal may have a significantly reduced teaching load. Teaching responsibilities include:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons that cater for the needs of learners of different abilities.
  • Teach learners according to their educational needs and in line with national guidelines.
  • Share expertise and provide support to other teachers.
  • Participate in providing feedback on teaching methods, assessment and pastoral arrangements.
  • Maintain good order and discipline among learners in accordance with school regulations and the code of conduct.
  • Perform other duties as outlined in the Principal’s Manual.

Job Specification

Principal Primary – Level 2, Rank L6a

Applicants must meet one of the following qualification and experience requirements:

  • Master of Education (M.Ed.) or equivalent qualification plus four (4) years’ experience as Senior Teacher II;

OR

  • Master of Education (M.Ed.) or equivalent qualification plus six (6) years’ experience as Senior Teacher I, with satisfactory performance and requisite competencies;

OR

  • Bachelor of Education Honours (B.Ed Hons) or equivalent qualification plus five (5) years’ experience as Senior Teacher II;

OR

  • Bachelor of Education Honours (B.Ed Hons) plus seven (7) years’ experience as Senior Teacher I;

OR

  • Bachelor of Education in Education plus five (5) years’ experience as Deputy Principal;

OR

  • Bachelor of Education in Education plus six (6) years’ experience as Senior Teacher II;

OR

  • Bachelor of Education in Education plus eight (8) years’ experience as Senior Teacher I, with satisfactory performance and requisite competencies.

Added Advantage

  • At least three (3) years of continuous experience in senior school administration and leadership positions.
  • Attendance of school administration and leadership training courses.

Salary Scale

Principal Primary

Salary Range: M235,752.00 – M355,980.00 per annum
