The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Paediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free paediatric and family-centred HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions. Karabo ea Bophelo (KB) is a five-year USAID-funded activity to prevent new HIV infections and reduce vulnerability among orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Lesotho. All positions are based in Maseru, Lesotho on full-time, fixed term contracts.

  1. PREVENTION SPECIALIST

Position Description:

A Prevention Specialist with extensive expertise in OVC programming, HIV and PEPFAR programs, will support Technical Lead prevention with ensuring implementation of the prevention program in line with PEPFAR priorities and in coordination with technical advisors and partners.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Provide technical leadership in applying global best practices and designing interventions to improve the quality and responsiveness of combination HIV prevention programming targeting adolescents and youth and their unique needs;
  • Ensure the project’s prevention interventions are gender and age sensitive, address cultural norms, and are appropriate for multiple populations and age groups;
  • Lead on development of strategy and interventions to reach Lesotho’s most vulnerable adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), including risk avoidance strategies for young adolescents (10-14 years);
  • Provide technical assistance including training and mentorship to IPs to implement the project’s HIV prevention strategy, as needed;
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of HIV prevention quality improvement activities;
  • Ensure the program establishes and maintains linkages across the clinical cascade and that the interventions support the unique needs of HIV positive adolescents;
  • Monitor and report on HIV prevention quality assessment, improvement, and assurance activities and monitor the latest advancements in HIV and STI prevention efforts for adolescents in Lesotho;
  • Perform any other prevention duties as required.

Qualifications, Experience & Required Skills:

  • Advanced degree in a Healthcare field, Social Work, Public Health, International Development, or a related field
  • 10 years of experience in programs targeting orphans and vulnerable children and/or adolescent girls strongly preferred.
  • Previous PEPFAR project experience highly valued.
  • Experience with institutional strengthening and partnership building helpful.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PEPFAR DREAMS programs required and work experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating HIV prevention quality improvement at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and use of training curricula.
  • Demonstrated Knowledge and experience in SBCC activity design and implementation.
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  •      Demonstrated high proficiency in English and Sesotho (reading, writing and speaking).
