Job Summary

The PTLD Study Nurse will play a critical role in the implementation of this longitudinal research study, which seeks to assess the burden, progression, and outcomes of post-tuberculosis lung disease.

The Study Nurse will be responsible for participant recruitment and enrollment, obtaining informed consent, conducting clinical assessments, collecting biological specimens, performing respiratory function tests, coordinating participant follow-up visits, managing study data collection, and ensuring that all study activities are conducted in accordance with the study protocol, ethical standards, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, screen and enroll eligible study participants.
  • Conduct informed consent procedures and maintain enrollment records.
  • Perform quality checks on equipment and patient files as needed.
  • Perform quality checks on participant’s files to ensure all information is documented.
  • Perform symptom questionnaires, clinical assessments and risk factor evaluations.
  • Coordinate chest X-rays, sputum testing, C reactive protein (CRP) testing, spirometry and other protocol-required procedures.
  • Conduct six-minute walk tests and respiratory health assessments.
  • Collect, process, label and transport study specimens.
  • Conduct follow-up visits and participant tracing activities.
  • Complete study documentation and electronic data capture forms.
  • Implement TB infection prevention and control measures.
  • Collaborate with investigators, laboratory teams and health facility staff.
  • Travel to different health facilities for study-related activities and patient follow-up.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery. Bachelor’s degree is an added advantage.
  • 3 years’ experience in TB, respiratory health, or TB study research. Experience in specimen collection and participant follow-up is an added advantage.
  • Prior experience working on research studies.
  • Strong communication and counseling skills.
  • Demonstrate a dedication to serving marginalized groups, such as TB patients.
  • Strong commitment to social justice.
  • Current registration and updated license with the Lesotho Nursing Council.
