UNDP and the JICA Research Institute are organizing a targeted policy dialogue to address the escalating threat of violent extremism in Africa. This multifaceted challenge has expanded despite global efforts, turning the continent into a new epicenter of violent extremism. Africa accounted for 48% of global terrorism deaths in 2021. The event aims to engage Japanese policymakers, practitioners, and regional stakeholders, reflecting on emerging research findings and their implications. This initiative seeks to transition from reactive to proactive measures, encouraging long-term investment and integrated solutions. The dialogue underscores the urgent need for international cooperation in curbing the impact of violent extremism on lives, economies, and development across Africa and Arab states.
