The PND Centre for homework and study in informal settlement is a nonprofit organisation that was established to support children and youth in informal settlements, the pilot project is in Kya sands informal settlement. The centre provides three main programmes, educational programme, social development programme and a gender equity programme. The educational programme aims at providing a place, space and time for children living in informal settlements to do their homework and to study, after school, on weekends and during school holidays.

PND Centre seeks to appoint a Volunteer teaching aide to be based in Johannesburg.

Remuneration: PCHS is an NPO but will offer a stipend

Responsibilities:

Monitor homework completion
Assist with studying
Offer fully planned tutorials
Participates in any other activities which may be undertaken to fulfill the objectives of the organization.

Requirements:

Relevant degree in subject listed above.
A registration with the South African Council of Educators (SACE) will be an added advantage, otherwise we will assist with the registration.
An individual who upholds the rights of children.
Strong coaching, mentoring and training skills
A good role model who will lead, inspire and drive learner development.
Effective English communication skills (oral and written)
Understand the dynamics of informal settlements
Exhibit a genuine passion and a belief in the potential of every learner.
Resides in or around Randburg

The centre is looking for unemployed graduates, residing in and around Randburg, who volunteer to assist learners with homework, study skills and subject knowledge in any of these: Mathematics, Biology, Physical Science, English, Geography, History, Tourism, CAT, Accounting and Business Studies.
