LESOTHO ELECTRICITY GENERATION COMPANY (LEGCO)
Lesotho Electricity Generation Company (LEGCO) is a statutory body registered under Companies Act of 2011, Registration No. 70536 to manage sustainable electricity generation in Lesotho. The primary objective of LEGCO is to develop and implement a systematic, well-planned development of power generation infrastructure in Lesotho using hydro, solar and wind resources for meeting local electricity requirements and also trading in energy with other Southern Africa Community Countries (SADC), while guaranteeing energy sovereignty and security for Lesotho.
LEGCO is fully supported and capacitated in the development and construction of power generating plants to meet the current and future electricity demands for the country, particularly in solar, hydro and wind.
LEGCO therefore invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following positions on a fixed-term contract.

Reporting to Plant Supervisor, the main objectives of the Plant Operator are to carry out professional plant Operation and Maintenance activities at the Lesotho Electricity Generation Company, ensuring adherence and compliance to regulatory requirements and operational procedures and safety standards.
Main Duties
- Monitor PV plant generation ensuring that metering systems meet accuracy and reliability standards.
- Utilize metering data to analyse consumption patterns and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
- Effectively communicate with internal teams, regulatory bodies, and utility customers regarding metering operations and changes.
- Compile periodic reports (weekly/monthly/quarterly/annually) for decision making as guided by the Supervisor.
- Investigate system faults and occurrences and assess situations on site detailing requirements for restoration of supply and repair.
- Supervise medium and low voltage switching operations, including isolating, testing, earthing and the issuing of work permits.
- Develop procedures, control plans, guidelines and test reports of all relevant equipment and maintain up-to-date documentation.
- Maintain and develop detailed engineering documentation including: Single Line Diagrams, Power System Studies (Arc Flash, Load Flow, Short Circuit, etc.), Network Diagrams, Protective Device Settings and Substation Layouts.
- Maintain a high level of engineering proficiency in power plant protection and control, and maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of all current techniques, applicable codes and regulations.
- Ensure reliable operation of protection and control devices, and provide necessary training to lower-level maintenance staff.
- Assist Plant Supervisors with technical problem solving as may be required from time to time.
- Monitor PV plant generation and analyse plant performance.
- Conduct daily walkdowns of the plant to monitor operations, identify potential issues and ensure compliance with safety and maintenance standards.
- Test control and protection devices in accordance with operation and maintenance plans requirements.
- Attend to communication faults requiring splicing, testing and commissioning of fibre-optic communication networks.
- Investigate system faults and occurrences and assess situations on site detailing requirements for restoration of supply and repairs under guidance of senior plant operators.
- Participate in safe working practices and adhere to health and safety regulations.
- Assist in inspection of safety equipment like fire extinguishers and other tools.
- Participate in incidents reporting and investigation.
Qualifications
Option 1: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering with a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience in an engineering environment, three of which should be in a solar power plant. Experience in power plant operations will be considered an added advantage.
OR
Option 2: Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering with minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an engineering environment. Experience in power plant operations will be considered an added advantage.
