SCOPE OF ROLE

The successful incumbent will be responsible for the financial controls, as well as ensuring that financial policies are adhered to. He / she will also ensure that improvement opportunities are identified and will work in close collaboration with the operations team to drive plant efficiencies and effectiveness.

The Plant Controller will also be responsible for evaluating the capital investment proposals and validate the financial justifications for the site and do post evaluation of investment already completed.

The successful incumbent will be driving the budgetary control process and provide periodic updates through Mid-Year estimates and later estimates in the year to reflect the current plant operational financial performance. He / she will also review all plant processes for controls as well as compliance and implement changes in collaboration with operations team to mitigate any process gaps or any control risks.

  • Cost Controlling
    • Provide accurate and meaningful financial information on production activities, production costs, overhead costs, and productivity.
    • Manage the costing process including analyzing BOM’s, making recommendations on how to improve the overall cost effectiveness, ensuring BOM’s and Routings are accurate through continuous investigation and monitoring of variance accounts, and adjust routings as and when required.
    • Review BOM formulation are up to date reflecting the current production in SAP
    • Control and maintain the accuracy and validity of material product costs and material master data, and ensure accurate allocation of costs relating to the production environment.
    • Perform production variance analysis in terms of value and volume; investigate errors and detail recommendations and corrective actions.
    • Perform material variance analysis, material purchase price analysis, monitoring and reporting on stock adjustments and scrapings, have oversight of monthly stock takings and analyses and report on results, and implement and develop action plans accordingly.
    • Perform overhead analysis and reporting by general ledger account, including analysis of labour, overhead recovery to product produced, and quarterly adjustments of activity rates.
    • Review stock cycle counts documentation and enquire with warehouse and third parties
    • Management of the consignment stock for accuracy; completeness i.e. slow moving and obsolete and expired stock management
    • Weekly meetings with Production Managers.
    • SKU involvement
    • Attend production meetings regularly.
    • Presentation to the production team of Variable overheads usage
    • Presentation of monthly plant performance
    • Educate procurement process.
    • Maintenance planned; preventative and adhoc cost management.
    • Effective use of AEM module.
    • Managing and following up of valid purchase orders.
    • Ensure GRN is done timeously by following up on open orders
    • Overtime cost management follow up
    • Cost centre budget review
    • Provide standard costs of the product to the business when required.
  • Reporting, Budgeting and Forecasting

    • Managing costing and reporting run process, including preparation, analysis of stock revaluation and BOM components, impact of raw materials, consignment stock settlement, reviewing sub-contractors accounts, analysis of labour and overhead recovery to product produced and quarterly adjustments of activity rates.
    • Preparation of monthly management packs, external audit packs, profit and loss, activity report, journals, annual budget and quarterly forecasts with full absorption recons to ensure balance sheet recons is accurate and complete.
  • General Accountabilities

    • Adherence to CFP policies affecting the plant
    • Costing and inventory procedures to be reviewed and up to date.
    • Sox testing
    • All such duties and/or activities assigned by management/board as and when required.
  • Minimum B Com Accounting or Costing Diploma or relevant experience
  • CIMA or SAICA
  • 4 to 5 years FMCG or Manufacturing Costing experience
  • SAP Exposure
  • Analytical and conceptual ability
  • High level of analytical and problem solving skills
  • Able to work autonomously in FMCG environment
  • Ability to learn
  • Ability to effectively communicate at senior management level;
  • Good leadership skills;
  • Customer focused mindset;
  • Experience in costing and specifically SAP system would be a distinct advantage;
  • Analytical and conceptual ability
  • Knowledgeable in cost accounting techniques
  • Familiar with Colgate business or similar role in another FMCG manufacturer
  • Confident, assertive, with the ability to build relationships and manage expectations in a credible manner within a challenging business environment;
  • Analytical with the ability to assess and resolve risks and issues and deliver and quantify business benefits;
