Position: Pit Lateral Support Engineer
Paterson Band: DU
Number of Posts: 1
Purpose:
To lead and implement best practice pit slope support requirements in line with approved geotechnical design and production timeline specifications.
Main Outputs and Responsibilities:
- Manage pit highwall and lateral support execution and its resources
- Conduct visual inspections of pit support activities to identify hazards, provide recommendations, and monitor support performance
- Interpret and review pit wall support designs for practical and safe installation
- Apply geotechnical engineering principles to ensure international best practices
- Forecast and budget resources for safe and effective support installation
- Monitor execution costs and ensure compliance with design specifications
- Provide management with yearly, quarterly, and monthly pit highwall support reports
- Drive pit wall support execution according to schedule and QA/QC programs
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in mining and/or civil works with support management
- Experience in contract management, support costing, and geological mapping
- Registration with a professional body (e.g., SAIMM, ECSA, Society of Natural Scientists) is an added advantage
Required Competencies, Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong understanding of support work methods and geotechnical engineering principles
- Proficiency in geological/geotechnical software such as RS Data, Rock Topple, MP Point Studio, Sky Geo InSAR, Rockfall
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
