POSITION SUMMARY

Under the programmatic  direction of the PHIA NY Training Coordinator, and in concert with  the Senior Survey Coordinators, the Clinical and Scientific Director and the PHIA Lab Director, the PHIA Training and Regulatory Coordinator will be responsible for helping to coordinate PHIA field staff and laboratory staff on all aspects of the training programs within the PHIA project as managed by each country team and ICAP office. This includes helping to develop, revise and implement training materials, operational training guidelines, and teaching and learning strategies. The role also involves helping to plan for and staff training workshops and ongoing capacity building activities that will allow PHIA to attain its strategic goals, targets and outcomes.

The coordinator will also provide support for the preparation for survey launches, working with country teams in a variety of capacities to ensure adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and other regulatory and ethics board requirements.

This position is grant funded.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Collaborate with ICAP, CDC and in-country partners to develop/revise training materials and training operational materials
  • In coordination with country-specific Technical Specialists, the PHIA NY Training Coordinator, Lab Director, in-country teams and Senior Survey Coordinators, help assure training needs and logistical requirements are met, including venues, transport, accommodation and equipment.
  • In coordination with ICAP HQ and country teams, help ensure compliance with training programs required by MOH and other regulatory agencies. Troubleshoot issues arising during training and help adapt operational plans to reduce these issues in the future.
  • As needed attend training sessions, serving as facilitator for specific sessions, provide feedback on educational methods to other facilitators, as well as monitoring training effectiveness
  • Provide support in gathering, organizing, and tabulating assessments and evaluations to measure overall training effectiveness.
  • Assist the PHIA NY Training Coordinator with conducting after action reviews and a repository of lessons learned to assess training outputs, and help to revise materials and methodology accordingly
  • Assist country teams in preparation for external audits of regulatory compliance with GCP.
  • Assist in protocol, SOP and training material development.
  • Work with country teams for the reporting of adverse events, and with HQ to develop processes and trainings as corrective actions.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation activities of surveys during data collection where necessary.
  • Perform any other training-related or regulatory duty as may be assigned.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters of Public Health or Education or related discipline, with a focus on Health/Development, or similar education
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience coordinating training programs and training/coaching trainers
  • Strong competency in Microsoft Office Suite (including email management (Outlook), Excel, Power Point and Word) and Adobe

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of HIV related testing and laboratory processes
  • History of working internationally, including in low and middle income settings
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be highly organized with extreme attention to detail and able to work independently and within a team
  • Ability to creatively solve problems often without guidance

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

The position will be based in Pretoria, South Africa.  Periodic travel is required to PHIA training venues as well as regions where surveys are being conducted approximately 35% of the time.
