JOB DESCRIPTION:
To receive, prepare and dispense prescription drugs and other medical devices to all patients at all times and instruct on their use. Your responsibility is to ensure that medications are properly stored and that security procedures are followed. The Pharmacy technologist will ensure that payment was made before issuing of medication and perform all duties designated to him/her by the supervisor.

Responsibilities:

To provide essential pharmaceutical services
• Oder drugs and medical supplies from the store
• Receive and distribute drugs and medical supplies to the wards and male clinic.
• Receive and record supplies
• Pre-pack drugs for dispensing
• Ensure availability of pharmaceuticals at all times

To advise on effective use of pharmaceuticals
• Monitor prescriptions to verify adherence to rational prescribing patterns
• Dispensing medications to in-patients and out-patients with effective counseling to ensure compliance
• Provide health interventions
• Empower patients through health education
• Attend major ward rounds with clinical staff

To ensure proper storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals
• Ensure that pharmaceuticals are stored in standard conditions
• Monitor and record storage temperatures
• Record every transaction that takes place in the storage area
• Conduct stock taking at least every six months to see how reliable your stock cards are
• Ensure supplies are distributed to the hospital wards and that proper storage conditions are followed even at the wards
• Ensure security of pharmaceuticals

To compile data concerning consumption of pharmaceuticals
• Collect consumption data every day through proper use of bin cards and dispensing tally sheets
• Compile consumption data monthly and produce consumption reports
• Use the statistical information from daily consumptions to establish the hospital needs and to advise the drug utilization operations
• Produce and submit reports monthly

Must be able to act in the best interest of the patient.

JOB SPECIFICATION:
• Must be a Mosotho Citizen who has Diploma in Pharmacy Technology plus two years’ experience or degree in pharmacy.
• Must have registered with Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Council.
