JOB TITLE: Pensions Officer
GRADE: G
RESPONSIBLE TO: Senior Pensions Officer
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To ensure the effective implementation of pension policies and procedures in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
MAIN DUTIES
1.0 Monitoring of Pension Payments
1.1 Verifies claim forms to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
1.2 Scrutinizes and authenticates compensation applications.
1.3 Enforces pension laws to ensure that appropriate formulas are applied.
1.4 Ensures that incoming files related to pensions and gratuities are properly registered.
1.5 Conducts necessary examinations on pension and gratuity matters and documents the results.
1.6 Assists in monitoring and supervising the work of audit examiners.
1.7 Submits examined files to the Examination Officer for further review and approval.
2.0 Section Management
2.1 Approves annual work plans for staff to ensure adherence to sectional objectives.
2.2 Conducts in-house and induction training programs for staff development.
2.3 Appraises staff performance and provides feedback.
2.4 Participates in budget preparation and allocation.
2.5 Represents the department in the Compensation Committee of the Ministry of Public Service.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Training
- Master’s Degree in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, Marketing, or Statistics.
OR - Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, Marketing, or Statistics plus two (2) years of work experience in pensions.
Other Relevant Knowledge
- Knowledge of public sector pension laws.
- Familiarity with Public Service Rules and Regulations.
- Understanding of Financial Regulations, Financial Institutions Act, and Money Lenders’ Act.
- Practical exposure to various types of pension schemes.
