**Responsibilities**

The incumbent will be responsible for:
+ Curriculum development of and lecturing of modules in the Science program based in the Department;

+ Developing, presenting and coordinating undergraduate courses as well as practical’s for pre-service and in-service teachers and other students for contact and distance presentation;

+ Mentoring students for practice teaching/work integrated learning;

+ Using a learning management system to develop and present courses;

+ Presenting lectures and programs in a face to face and E-learning environment;

+ Providing a significant contribution to faculty outputs, teaching and supervision.

+ Initiate and develop curriculum and course materials in Physical Science/ Chemistry Education.

+ Coordinate modules in Sciences Education.

+ Contribute towards the Department’s transformational and strategic goals.

+ The preparation and delivery of lecturers.

+ Conduct tutorials, demonstrations, workshops for students and staff.

+ Participate in academic administration such as attendance at departmental, school and / or faculty meetings, faculty administration, class administration, record keeping etc.

+ Consultation, supervision and teaching of students at postgraduate and undergraduate level

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Hons in Science in relevant field, Master’s in Science preferable.

+ Undergraduate specialization in the relevant field;

+ Teaching and/or research experience in programs relevant to the Department’s offerings.

+ Evidence of coordination responsibilities

+ Experience and expertise in curriculum development

+ Experience of teaching practice/work integrated learning;

+ Evidence of involvement in community engagement programs;

+ Able to demonstrate innovation in teaching, experience in blended learning delivery and the use of technology for improving learner throughput

**Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge and Behavioral Attributes)**

+ Knowledge of the South African education system regarding Science Education;

+ Knowledge of and experience of facilitation;

+ Knowledge of the different knowledge fields in Science Education;

+ Knowledge of teaching methodologies in the different knowledge fields in Science Education;

+ Appropriate language and communication skills;

+ Ability to apply knowledge and skills in teaching and supervision;

+ Ability to work as an individual and in a team.

**Added Advantages and Preferences**

+ Teaching experience in Science Education at a Higher Education Institution;

+ Evidence of membership of professional associations/organizations.

**Qualifications**

  • Hons in Science in relevant field, Master in Science preferable.
  • Undergraduate specialisation in the relevant field.
