SolidarMed is a Swiss NGO, dynamic, flexible and with a clear vision and long-term experience in Lesotho. In 2020, SolidarMed will continue to support the Ministry of Health (MoH) and DHMTs of Butha-Buthe (BB) and Mokhotlong (MKG) to improve the quality of health care and access to primary health care for the remote populations. To facilitate these aims, we are seeking talented and motivated people to fill the following positions in 2020 in our Health First Lesotho (HFL) project. The vacancies are for the coArtHA Trial – a study that seeks to identify the most effective treatment to control Arterial Hypertension in sub-Saharan Africa (in collaboration with University of Basel and MoH), Mobile Health Outreaches in collaboration with Bracelet of Hope, and SolidarMed Programme.
- Outreach Nurse – Mobile Health Outreaches Butha-Buthe
The Outreach Nurse will support the DHMT BB to improve access of comprehensive PHC services for the remote populations. SolidarMed in a joint venture with Bracelet of Hope is piloting Mobile Health Unit (MHU) at fixed outreach sites through the visit of MHU and engagements with community pillars. The outreach sites are determined by DHMT and includes difficult hard to reach areas with occasional overnight sleeping at the facility. The outreach nurse will support this initiative by working closely with DHMT and health facility personnel to provide oversight of service delivery provisions at outreach sites.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive PHC to the people living in remote areas through MHU. This includes services related to HIV, TB and MNCH (ante-natal/post-natal care, immunizations, under five growth monitoring, and malnutrition screening);
- Offer contraceptives to women of child-bearing age;
- Conduct systematic community health education on STI, HIV and teenage pregnancy prevention;
- Provide NCDs screening and care to include Diabetes, Hypertension and Cervical Cancer;
- Work closely with health facility staff and pillars to follow up patients and to ensure proper recording of patient data;
- Perform health education sessions and also supervise the health talks or health education sessions conducted by others at the outreach site.
Skills and Required Competencies
- A valid registration certificate with the Lesotho Nursing Council
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Primary Health Care (PHC) level nursing work and additional nursing work experience in a hospital based within Lesotho health system would be advantageous
- Sound computer literacy, communication skills, report writing skills, ability to work under pressure and a team player
- Ability to communicate fluently in written and spoken Sesotho and English
- Having worked with an NGO is an added advantage
Qualifications – Minimum Diploma in Nurse Midwifery
