Operations Supervisor
- Operational management
- Supervise and coordinate the work of store attendants, loaders, decanters, re-packers, expeditors, coal & ash handlers, forklift drivers, sorters, and packaging operators.
- Achieve daily production, dispatch, and quality targets.
- Allocate tasks, monitor workflow, and adjust staffing levels as required.
- Oversee loading/unloading, stock movement, packaging, and storage processes.
- Safety, Compliance & Quality Control
- Enforce compliance with workplace safety rules, PPE standards, and OHS Act requirements.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks, safety checks, and routine inspections.
- Ensure quality standards are met across sorting, packaging, repacking, and decanting operations.
- Implement corrective actions for safety or quality deviations
- People management
- Provide supervision, coaching, and performance management for operational staff.
- Plan shifts, manage attendance, and ensure discipline in line with HR guidelines.
- Support morale, teamwork, and a productive work environment.
- Address minor grievances and escalate complex issues appropriately.
- Training and Development
- Identify skills gaps and training needs across operational teams.
- Conduct on-the-job training for new employees (e.g., loaders, sorters, repackers, forklift assistants).
- Train staff on SOPs, safety procedures, equipment handling, and quality requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date training matrices and records.
- Work with HR/Training departments to arrange refresher courses and competency assessments.
- Ensure staff are fully briefed on new processes, changes, and updated operational standards.
- Inventory and Material Control
- Monitor and record materials received, stored, repacked, and dispatched.
- Ensure efficient stock rotation, correct labelling, and clean storage areas.
- Prevent material shortages by coordinating with procurement/warehouse teams.
- Equipment and Asset Management
- Supervise safe and efficient use of forklifts, pallet jacks, and machinery.
- Ensure daily equipment checks and report breakdowns promptly.
- Reduce downtime through proactive maintenance practices
- Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain daily production, labour usage, and dispatch reports.
- Track deviations, operational risks, and safety incidents.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, training registers, audit documentation, and quality forms
Required Skills and Qualification
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Certificate/Diploma in Operations, Supervisory Management, Logistics, or Production (advantageous).
- Forklift Training Certificate or ability to supervise forklift operations is beneficial
- 3–5 years’ experience in operations, manufacturing, or warehousing.
- Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or team-lead role.
- Experience conducting staff training is an advantage
- Knowledge of material handling, loading, sorting, packaging, and repacking processes.
- Understanding of OHS Act, quality standards, and environmental regulations.
- Ability to train staff on SOPs and equipment requirements.
- Strong reporting, planning, and operational problem-solving skills
