The Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) will officially launch the opening of the “Maluti Fresh Produce Market” on the 1st October 2021 at Tikoe Industrial Estate, Maseru. The event will be officiated by the Right Honourable the Prime Minister.
The primary objective of Maluti Fresh Produce Market is to correct the structural deficiencies in the local fresh produce market. This, as part of the LNDC’s mandate, will improve market access to aggregated vegetable production whilst enabling greater local participation in vegetable production and ultimately improve economic activity. It is envisaged that the market centre will allow those individuals engaged in farming activities to better market their fresh produce and receive prompt payment for their products.
The Market Centre was developed by the Ministry of Trade and Industry through a grant from the International Trade Centre (ITC) under the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) Project Phase II. The Ministry of Trade and Industry handed the asset over to the Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) who were tasked with developing the market centre for private investment and commercial operationalisation.
