Open up to life’s surprises and don’t clothe your fears with optimism

There’s no difference between a pessimist who says, “Oh, it’s hopeless, so don’t bother doing anything,” and a pessimist who says, “Don’t bother doing anything, it’s going to turn out fine anyway.” Either way, nothing happens. – Yvon Chouinard

Now isn’t it amazing, that we have people who are afraid to act all around us? We have fearful people who try to buttress their fear by appearing to be just optimistic. They’re afraid to act, all in the name of waiting for the right time. Well I don’t know a lot of things in life, but I’ll tell this: there’s no such thing as the right time.

In all of life, all of us, once in a while, have had to make a leap of faith. We don’t always have a working plan of action. We can’t always anticipate properly the outcomes of our intended pursuits. But either way, life doesn’t have to be imprisoning. Or does it have to?

I see and hear people who for some unknown reasons will rather remain confined in ordinary routines of life. Ask them if they like it that way, they’ll always show frustrations with that way of living. Why can’t they move to something challenging and fulfilling? They claim to just be positive that when the time is right they’ll make their move. This is a tempting hallucination.

Does it ever happen? Nope! A lot of this supposedly optimistic people are the most frustrated. They know they hate their present, but can’t seem to desire to move into unknown territories. Guess what? Life is full of surprises. Things don’t always work out as planned, but that’s no excuse for why you remain ordinary about life.

If you’re serious about life, be prepared to be knocked down to the ground twice or thrice in a while. That we call life. So many uninvited visits of rejections, loss, embarrassment, frustration, discouragement and a few successes are awaiting you at every corner of the earth. You can’t fly to a risk-free city on this earth. Why is this? Because life happens everywhere.

I believe life is unpredictable, but its unpredictability hasn’t hindered the success of many. Why should it hinder yours?

“Nobody will hit you as hard as life can. It’ll beat you to the ground and leave you there permanently if you let it. It isn’t about how hard you’re hit, but about how hard you can take the hits and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.” – Sylvester Stallone
