Project Hyperion invites visionaries, architects, engineers, and social scientists to collaborate on a groundbreaking challenge: designing the habitat for a generation ship. This concept of long-term interstellar travel relies on a spacecraft capable of sustaining human life for centuries, requiring innovation in architecture, engineering, and societal organization.
Participants will envision how humanity could thrive aboard such a vessel, using current and near-future technologies to create a self-sustaining environment.
The primary goal of this competition is to design the habitat of a generation ship, including its architecture, technological systems, and societal structure. The design must address the challenges of maintaining a self-sustaining human population for centuries in space, ensuring both physical survival and psychological well-being.

Phase 1 Deadline: 2nd February 2025
Phase 2 Deadline: 4th May 2025
Announcement of Winners: 2nd June 2025
Eligibility: Open to all individuals and teams worldwide.
To ensure interdisciplinary collaboration, teams are encouraged to include at least:
One architectural designer
One engineer
One social scientist (e.g., sociologist, anthropologist)
Note: These roles are flexible. A short bio and team organization description must be submitted with the entry.
Phase 1: Concept Development
Submission of initial designs and narratives addressing the generation ship’s habitat layout, systems, and societal framework.
Shortlisted teams will proceed to Phase 2.
Phase 2: Detailed Design
Comprehensive designs, technical details, and visual presentations of the habitat.
Teams must provide detailed plans for architecture, technology integration, and societal models.
Total Prize Fund: $10,000 (USD)
First Place: $5,000
Second Place: $3,000
Third Place: $2,000
There wıill also be 10 honorable mentions.
