Online specialisation workshop | Cash and Voucher Assistance and human mobility

79

Introduction

The number of people forced to leave their homes due to conflicts, violence, or disasters has reached an all-time high, with over 103 million people according to the UN Refugee Agency. Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) has emerged as one of the optimal aid modalities to ensure the dignity and respect of millions of people around the world. Despite experiencing significant growth, CVA remains underutilized. If implemented whenever feasible and appropriate, CVA could represent between 30% and 50% of total humanitarian aid. Recipients of assistance prefer cash to in-kind aid in most parts of the world and crisis contexts. CVA has been used more frequently in recent times in various areas of human mobility. Several studies highlight their impact in different thematic areas, such as transfer modalities, gender differences, and work with stranded or unidentified persons or with host communities.
