Job Purpose

  • Surveillance Officer is mainly responsible for operating and maintaining surveillance equipment, watching both live and recorded video surveillance footage, reporting system malfunctioning, incidents or suspicious behaviour and contacting the authorities when necessary. The basis of a Surveillance Officer’s role is ultimately to safeguard the Bank’s assets, people, money and ensure security of data.
  • He/she is tasked with maintaining control room equipment, watching multiple monitors at once, making note of any unusual occurrences and interacting with law enforcement officers. Typically, Surveillance Officer will report to a higher-level member of staff, such as GPS Manager or Security Officer, and will be expected to maintain a high level of fastidiousness, professionalism, care and integrity at all times.
  • The officer will also manage access control systems, equipment and staff access & identification cards

 

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Monitoring and maintenance of the Banks electronic security systems (CCTV and Access Control) and other related assignment instructions, all in liaison with service providers, IT and other BU as required.
  • Supervision of the guards.
  • To do his/her job effectively, Surveillance Officer must have a thorough understanding of the equipment he/she is working with. Surveillance Officer is tasked with deleting or archiving old footage as needed (upon receipt of necessary approvals), organizing old footage in an orderly fashion, found within videotapes, compact discs, memory cards, hard drives or servers.
  • Additionally, Surveillance Officer must also be able to maintain that same equipment.
  • Surveillance Officer will need to correctly catalogue all footage so that it can be easily recalled later.  
  • The Officer will be responsible for daily routine sanity tests on the bank’s cameras including those in branches and ATMs
  • Surveillance Officer must watch that the video surveillance footage is being recorded.
  • Surveillance Officer doesn’t just watch a bunch of screens all day. Rather, he/she must be unwaveringly focused and observant so that whenever he/she witnesses something unusual, suspicious or questionable he/she is able to make a detailed note of it.
  • Surveillance Officer must be able to identify small, seemingly insignificant details that most people would overlook. This ability allows him/her to keep the area as safe as possible.
  • Ability to Multitask: Even when a Surveillance Officer receives a phone call or must speak to a colleague, he/she must always be keeping an eye on the monitors.
  • Ability to Work Independently: For the most part, Surveillance Officer will not be required to interact with very many people. Because of this, it is important that he/she can work and stay alert without constant supervision.
  • The Incident Management Lesotho: If an incident should occur, it is very likely that the Surveillance Officer will need to follow the steps laid out in the Incident Management, which is used by the Bank.
  • Communication Skills: Since Surveillance Officer will occasionally have to give statements to police officers, communicate with emergency services or even appear in court, they need to have strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualification and Experience

  • Diploma in Information Technology.
  • Experience in banking industry.
  • Experience in business support/ administration is mandatory
  • Exposure to Security Systems is a requirement
  • An experienced administrator well versed in POR Operations support.
  • An established network of service providers in the local market, procurement disciplines and ability to negotiate.
  • Budgetary or intermediate financial accounting.
