Overview:
Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Pediatric AIDS Initiative and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free paediatric and family-centered HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions.
BCMCFL is looking for highly qualified candidates to fill in the following position on a full-time, Fixed-Term Contract basis. This position is based at Maseru – Center of Excellence (COE)
Position: Nutritionist x 1
Duties and Responsibilities
Position Overview
Nutritionists provide evidence-based information and guidance about the impacts of food and nutrition on the health and wellbeing of patients. It is important that nutritionists have a good understanding of the scientific basis of nutrition. They can work with individuals who have pre-existing medical conditions as well as with acutely-ill patients in the support of their nutritional management or treatment, practicing within a multi-disciplinary team. The position also has the obligation to support the national nutrition program at all levels.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide nutrition counselling to all patients that are referred by doctors
- Make sure that severely ill patients with malnutrition are counselled and followed up
- Check on food security issues among patients and design interventions that will improve patient’s food security
- Document patient progress
- Work with outreach nurses on nutrition issues whenever is necessary
- Deal with issues related to Nutrition Education in Baylor COE clinics and on radio programmes
- Assist with nutrition research whenever is necessary
- Conduct nutrition education in all Baylor Centres
- Attend meeting in Baylor and outside whenever is necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administration from time to time.
Educational Qualifications, Work Experience and Key Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Food and Nutritional Science or related field
- At least 2 years work experience as a professional nutritionist and working with patients with specific dietary restrictions
- Attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work closely with patients
- Interpersonal skills
- In-depth knowledge of different dietary allergies and restrictions
- An understanding of food science and how it affects bodies
