Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant provides basic care to patients under the supervision of registered nurses.
Relations
- Reports directly to Registered Nurse Midwife or Nurse Clinician.
- Receives technical direction from Medical Officers on the care of individual patients.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Promotes and maintains the health of individuals, families and communities through health education.
- Provides care at all settings.
- Promotes nutrition of patients, families and communities.
- Facilitates communication with patients during their care.
- Prepares individuals and groups for the execution of diagnostic procedures and therapeutic acts by a registered person.
- Monitors clients’ vital signs and reports to the Nurse in the unit.
- Reassures clients and relatives on the illness of the patient.
- Assesses the condition of a client where there is a need and reports any problem.
- Promotes exercise, rest and sleep.
- Assists in feeding helpless patients.
- Provides safety and security of patients.
- Gives information, education and counselling to individuals, families and communities.
- Collects and compiles data using specific forms and registers.
- Provides MCH services at all levels of care.
- Provides care for HIV/AIDS patients, including HCT, PMTCT, and ART services at all levels.
- Maintains supply of oxygen to the patients.
- Carries out health duties assigned related to patients’ care.
- Assists nurses in inventory checking and recording.
