PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Nursing Assistant, under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered nurse or midwife, plans and provides skilled direct care across the care field using systematic and ethical approaches, whether in the preventive, curative, rehabilitative or supportive domains to individuals, families, groups or communities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides patients’ personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos and shaves; assisting with travel to the bathroom and helping with showers and baths.
2. Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with feeding helpless patients as necessary; ambulating, turning, and positioning patients; providing fresh water and nourishment between meals.
3. Provides assistant care by administering enemas, douches, dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments and therapeutic baths; applying restraints.
4. Maintains patient stability by checking vital signs and weight; testing urine; recording intake and output information.
5. Assist with Routine dressing and removal of sutures.
6. Reception and admission of patients.
7. Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
8. Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures.
9. Protects organization’s value by keeping patient information confidential.
10. Assist with MCH services such as vaccination and family planning services.
11. Assist with surgical procedures in theatre, physiotherapy, counselling and triaging services.
12. Assist with oral medication and injections
13. Plans and carry out health education sessions necessary to improve patients care.
14. Liaise with other departments like X-ray, Laboratory, Pharmacy etc.
Sluices and disinfects sputum mugs, urinals bedpans and soiled linen to destroy bacteria.
15. Airs and disinfects the mattress and bed after providing the last offices to a client who has either passed away or been discharged.
16. Expected to work day and night shifts for continuity of patients care.
17. Assist with screening and testing for Covid 19.

Job Requirements:
1. Holder of Certificate for Nursing Assistant obtained from an accredited institution recognised by Lesotho Nursing Council.
2. Must be having a valid practicing license issued by Lesotho Nursing Council.
