Overview:

The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Paediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free paediatric and family-centred HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment, and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions.

Lesotho/Local Entities Advancing and Driving Health Responses (LEADR) is a proposed multi-year project funded by USAID intended to provide effective decentralized, differentiated, and integrated facility and community services to maximize equitable access to comprehensive HIV, TB, and COVID-19 interventions through a primary health care approach to ensure that clients have access to holistic services. Its goal is to support the Government of Lesotho to deliver high-quality integrated prevention, care and treatment services that will sustain the reduction in HIV, TB, and COVID-19 transmission, morbidity, and mortality in Lesotho through the implementation of a comprehensive, person-centered approach. If awarded to BCMCFL, the project will be implemented in Butha Buthe and Mokhotlong districts and at the BCMCFL Maseru Centre of Excellence (COE) and Mohale’s Hoek Satellite Center of Excellence (SCOE).

BCMCFL is looking for qualified candidates to fill in the following positions available on a full-time, Fixed-Term Contract basis.

Position: Nurse Mentor – Based in Butha-Buthe

Duties and Responsibilities

Position overview:
Reporting to the District Technical Advisor, the Nurse Mentors will provide direct service delivery, mentorship, and supervision on integrated comprehensive activities geared towards the response to TB, HIV, COVID-19, and non-communicable diseases. The Nurse Mentors will be part of the roving district-level team that includes the HTS and PSS Lead Counsellors, QA/QI Advisors, M&E Officers. The Nurse Mentor will also coordinate with DHMT personnel for the provision of joint validation, joint QI coaching, and Health systems strengthening joint mentorship and training activities with the DHMT. Joint supervision and mentorship visits will include spending a minimum of ONE (1) week at remote health facilities regularly.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide focus on the components of HIV, TB/HIB Care and SRH services, including direct service delivery, mentorship, documentation and follow-up.
  • In close collaboration with the DHMT and other clinical implementing partners, train, mentor and supervise healthcare professionals on HIV and TB/HIV care and treatment and SRH services.
  • Provide clinical review of complicated HIV and HIV/TB cases.
  • Provide data review and mentorship of HIV cascade for all patients.
  • Provide technical support to assigned health facilities to ensure integration of cervical cancer screening in services in HIV and TB/HIV services.
  • Provide technical support to assigned health facilities for integration of HIV services into PHC.
  • Ensure that proper counselling is being provided to women receiving PMTCT, ART or TB treatment on the importance of prevention of cervical cancer through screening.
  • Coordinate contact tracing of patients diagnosed with TB.
  • Identify patients with treatment failure and provide clinical and PSS follow up until virally suppressed.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor regarding implementation of activities.
  • Ensure prompt and proper reporting of project activities.
  • Perform other duties that are assigned by the administration.

Educational Qualifications, Work Experience and Key Competencies

  • Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Hands on clinical experience in TB/HIV direct service delivery
  • Current valid registration with Lesotho Nursing Council.
  • Postgraduate qualification in HIV/AIDS with expertise in HIV care and treatment would be an added advantage.
  • Good report writing, training and computer skills.
