Position Summary
Under the Director of Student Affairs and supervision of the Nurse-in-Charge, the candidate shall:
- Diagnose and treat patients
- Carry out nursing duties and ensure quality of care at all times
Primary Duties
- Diagnose and treat patients where there is no doctor/physician
- Treat opportunistic infections
- Educate individuals and groups on health matters
- Provide family planning services to students, staff, and the community
- Conduct cervical cancer screening
- Provide counselling services on health issues affecting students, including stress, anxiety, tension, HIV/AIDS, and sexually transmitted infections
- Initiate HAART for all patients eligible for treatment
- Perform minor surgical procedures
- Orientate new students on current health issues
- Identify, manage, and educate individuals, families, and communities on communicable and non-communicable diseases
- Respond rapidly to pandemic diseases in alignment with Ministry of Health protocols
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- General Nursing, Midwifery, and Diploma in Primary Health Care
- Must be registered with the Lesotho Nursing Council and Association
Work Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a hospital, clinic, or recognised health treatment setting
- Experience working in a tertiary institution will be an added advantage
- Must be able to use an e-register system
Skills
- Very good command of the English language
- Strong decision-making skills
- Good communication skills
- Non-judgmental approach
Remuneration
The University offers salaries and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Employment Type
- Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable terms for local candidates
- Two (2) year contract for non-locals, with the possibility of renewal
