NURSE CLINICIAN JOB POST
MARYLAND HEALTH CENTRE
JOB TITLE: Nurse Clinician
Grade: G
JOB SUMMARY:
The incumbent is responsible for both administrative and clinical duties at the health centre and assists in running the Outpatient Department, including triaging patients before consultation by medical officers. They may also assist medical officers during consultations.
Relations:
- Under direct supervision of the Primary Health Care Coordinator/Director, PHN
- For technical/clinical perspective under the direction of the medical officer
- For administrative purposes under PHN
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Administration:
- Responsible for the management of the health centre
- Ensures an environment that is physically, socially, and spiritually conducive to the well-being of the individual patient, client, family, or groups
- Ensures that staff allocated to the health centre report to work as per the duty roster
- Appraises staff members under his/her supervision
- Participates in drawing up the health centre budget with the manager and bookkeeper
- Ensures the security of facility resources
- Maintains facility population profiles
- Collaborates with members of formal and informal structures including other community-based programs
- Pioneers and coordinates all health-related activities and acts as a change agent
- Demonstrates knowledge of the Lesotho Constitution and other related laws
- Writes proposals and undertakes research and investigations into community health problems
- Efficiently documents all activities of the health centre
- Submits all statistical documents to relevant offices at stipulated periods
Clinical Duties:
- Allocates each staff member a specific role for the day based on their job description
- Assesses, diagnoses, and manages medical and surgical conditions in children and adults
- Provides reproductive health care services
- Delivers health education to individuals, groups, families, and communities within the Maryland Health Centre catchment area
- Identifies and refers clients outside the scope of practice to the hospital
- Possesses skills to monitor and supervise activities of community health workers
- Issues sick leaves not exceeding five days
- Performs any other duties assigned within the nursing profession
Authorities and Powers:
- Supervises supportive staff, unit attendants, nursing assistants, registered nurses, and registered midwives
Professional Registration:
Must be registered with the Lesotho Nursing Council with an updated annual subscription
Job Specification:
- Possess Diplomas in General Nursing, Midwifery, and relevant Nurse Clinician programs
- Minimum two years of working experience as a Nurse Clinician
