Overview:

The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Paediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free paediatric and family-centred HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions.

Comprehensive High Impact Community Based HIV Prevention, Testing and Treatment Initiation for Sustained Epidemic Control in Lesotho under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (CoHip SEC) is  a five-year CDC funded activity that will be implemented by BCMCFL to provide comprehensive and evidence based community HIV prevention, testing and treatment initiation for the general population and other at-risk groups such as youth, men, migrant and factory workers, as well as building capacity of local organizations, civil society organizations and community systems in implementing data-driven programming. The project will be implemented in Maseru, Mafeteng, Mohale’s Hoek and Berea Districts.

BCMCFL is looking for qualified candidates to fill in the following position available on a full-time, Fixed-Term Contract basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

Position overview

The trained assistant nurse will assume the responsibility to provide clinical diagnostic evaluations and treatment initiation for COVID-19 and TB for clients in the community. Become part of the CoHipSEC staff and DHMTs and Health facilities staff

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform dual screening of clients for COVID- 19 and TB
  • Conduct outreach campaigns to mobilize for TB and COVID-19 screening.
  • Conduct household screening of contacts of COVID 19/TB cases
  • Ensures screening of patients for covid and TB at health facilities and community settings.
  • Conduct demand creation and awareness programs for COVID- 19/TB and HIV prevention messages.
  • Ensure same day treatment initiation for COVID -19 and TB eligible patients and start eligible clients on TPT at both the facility and community.
  • Support TB/COVID-19 screening at standalone sites, health facilities and private sector
  • Create demand for vaccination and other health services for adolescent boys and young men at soccer tournaments, and sporting activities.
  • Link and follow up all clients to the health facilities for further management and continuum of care
  • Provide services to elicited household contact of diagnosed clients
  • Ensures timely discussions with the nurse 
  • Performs any other duty that may be assigned by administration from time to time.

Educational Qualifications, Work Experience and Key Competencies

  • Certificate in training nurse assistant
  • Current registration with the Lesotho Nursing Council as a Nurse Midwife 
  • Good report writing, training and computer skills.
  • Willingness to adapt to the changing demands of the position.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet targets.
