WHEN
The programme will begin digitally in October 2021, followed by ± 5 months of remote work, concluding with
poster presentations at the AMWN’s Towards Zero Plastics to the Seas of Africa conference in Nelson Mandela Bay, South
Africa in May 2022. The digital programme will include a meet and greet, review of the challenges, and formation of
working groups

The sub-projects of the pilot will:

  • Have a clear focus on a particular aspect of ocean plastic waste.
  • Engage 4-6 participants working on individual assignments at their home institution.
  • Leverage a relationship with industry and businesses in both countries, providing “real-life” challenges and motivation to find sustainable solutions, for hosting the participants, and for disseminating the results.
  • Benefit from a coordinating “body” or liaison to facilitate sharing of information and networking – aiming to ensure that the combined effort of individual assignments contributes to the overall aim of the pilot project.
  • Contribute to the overall aim of the pilot project by encouraging liaisons to share information and forge networking in and between the working groups
