NMDS Bursaries to South Africa Sponsored Universities, January 2020

Applications for NMDS Bursaries to the Republic of South Africa (RSA) sponsored universities are invited, from academically eligible Lesotho citizens who wish, to pursue the published NMDS Students Priorities’ programmes of study for Bachelor’s Degrees, Honours, Masters, and PhDs for the Academic Year beginning in January 2020. Applications must be submitted at the NMDS One-Stop-Shop Facility in Maseru from Monday 2nd September and will be closed on Thursday 3rd October 2019.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

The following academic certificates that are relevant and admissible into the published priority programmes for Bachelor’s Degrees:

1. International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma;
2. Senior Certificate – Matriculation Exemption;
3. Any other recognized A-Level academic qualifications;
4. LGCSE with APS below 26 and at least credit C in relevant subjects;
5. COSC with at least 2nd class pass with aggregate not more than 34 and at least credit C in relevant subjects; and
6. Relevant N5 or N6, passed with complete Transcript.

Other acceptable requirements are as follows:

1. All self-sponsored students registered for 1st year or those who completed and passed any other subsequent year on any of the priority programmes of study may apply using their academic results.
2. Completed Bridging Course, passed with complete Transcript, for admissibility into the priority Bachelor’s Degree.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

• Relevant First Degree from a recognized institution, for Honours and Masters Applications.
• Relevant Master’s Degree from a recognized institution, for PhD applications.

Applicants must submit their applications as follows: 
• Application letter addressed to Director –NMDS, stating programme of study (programme of study should be amongst the identified list of priorities), university applied to;
• Original and certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts (from Primary Leaving School up to the highest qualification). SKILLS SHARPENING SHORT TERM CERTIFICATES, CERTIFICATES OF ATTENDANCE/PARTICIPATION ARE NOT REQUIRED;
• Original and certified copies of Lesotho National ID and Birth Certificate;
• Applicants must have paid at least 50% of their previous Loan Bursary; and
• Employed applicants must obtain employer’s nomination letter that acknowledge duration of employment and programme of study applied for by the employee.
• All foreign and local private qualifications should be evaluated by South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

All programmes applied for should be on the published list of the NMDS Students Priorities for 2019/2020.

NB:
• All applicants must choose their intended courses as specified on Column 2: PRIORITY COURSES of the NMDS Students Priorities for 2019/2020.

• Column 4: EXAMPLES OF INSTITUTION OFFERING assist applicants with institutions where the priority courses are offered. However, applicants are free to apply to any other institution published as sponsored by NMDS if such institution offer the published priority course. An applicant must have applied for admission at the sponsored institution for a chosen course.

• Columns 5: UNDERGRADUATE LEVEL and 6: POSTGRADUATE LEVEL assist applicants with the level at which the priority course is available for sponsorship. If it is available for UNDERGRADUATE only it is sponsored only at that level, if it is available for POSTGRADUATE only it is sponsored only at that level, and if it is available for both it is sponsored at both levels.

All applications should be hand delivered to NMDS Scholarship Office – in the NMDS One-Stop-Shop Facility from Monday 2nd September to Thursday 3rd October 2019. All applicants must immediately start registering themselves at the following NMDS link/ Online-Portal:www.scholarships.manp.gov.ls.
