The International Treatment Preparedness Coalition is a global activist network that fights for universal access to optimal treatment and diagnostics. As an issue-based coalition, ITPC uses HIV as an entry point to the right to health, partnering with affected communities across the world to address treatment access issues for other diseases including diabetes, hepatitis C and hypertension.

The International Treatment Preparedness Coalition (ITPC) seeks to appoint a New Business Development Intern to assist their Executive Director and team with business development responsibilities.

The intern will work with the Executive Director, Finance and Program Director, and other senior team members to gain familiarity with ITPC priorities, while learning the tactical aspects of the business development cycle for non-profits in the HIV/AIDS space, with the goal of helping to develop a pipeline of prospective donors.

This full-time 3-month internship offers the perfect opportunity to work at the heart of an international activist, global health non-profit during the unprecedented public health crisis of COVID-19. The successful applicant will gain a deeper understanding of how NGOs are pivoting in the current philanthropic environment to be able to meet the needs of their constituents. Unlike other internships, the selected intern will work closely with the Executive Team at ITPC and have an opportunity to present to the executive team and relevant Board sub-committee and/or write a blog post about their experience. The intern will report directly to the Director of Finance at ITPC. This position is fully remote.

Responsibilities :
The key elements of the intern role will be as follows, with an average time allotment based on the below percentages over the course of their time at the Center:

Research prospective donors (30%):
Maintain an actively nurtured lead list by conducting market research using online and social media resources
Gather prospective donor priorities and requirements to guide how to best engage each donor in a more tailored form
Review trends around funding priorities and changes with COVID, etc.
Fundraising database (20%):
Create a fundraising database of prospective donors, key information and contacts, priorities, and dates of conversations
Maintain fundraising database
Train team and Executive Director on how best to use and maintain fundraising database
Briefings for fundraising priorities (30%):
Conduct internal interviews to determine what aspects for ITPC require fundraising around
Draft personalized emails to high-priority leads promoting key elements to fundraise around
Draft internal briefing and fundraising materials for key donors/ prospects
Where appropriate, participate in some fundraising calls and support follow-up actions
Draft proposal templates based on past proposals to expedite future proposals
Research alternative revenue/ funding sources (20%)
Research alternative revenue or funding sources (e.g., donor mix), working closely with the Board’s Development Committee
Research ideas including decentralized crowd-sourcing funding models, movement-led focus, and activist collateral/ merchandise with ITPC as revenue sources
Present recommendations that will inform Development Strategy
Qualifications:
Successful candidates should have:
Undergraduate or Masters degree required
Understanding of and interest in social impact and public health, preferably with some knowledge of the donor landscape, specific to HIV (preferred)
Business acumen that will inform budgeting
Excellent cross-cultural/interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent writing skills
Familiarity with CRMs/ databases (HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho) and Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint (intermediate or advanced) preferred
Reasonable flexibility to work with colleagues around the globe in various time zones. The primary mode of communication will be via zoom.

This internship is expected to start September 1 and end October 31, 2021. This position is advertised as a full-time internship due to the scope and nature of the deliverables but engagement parameters are negotiable. Although this is an unpaid internship, ITPC will provide a monthly stipend of USD 500 to cover mutually agreed operational expenses (data/communication etc.) as negotiated with the successful candidate.
