The Tshisimani Centre for Activist Education was established in 2016 to create political education programmes with social justice movements and activists. Due to our expanding need to disseminate our work in creative ways, we are seeking a committed, skilled, and creative multi-media designer to work with our arts and media team. TCAE seeks to appoint a Multi- media design assistant to be based in Mowbray, Cape Town.

Employment Type:1 year contract subject to renewal based on funding

The incumbent will provide support to the arts and media team to produce online and digital educational content and materials. This involves assisting the social media specialist & content creator, and the visual materials developer and curator. The assistant will provide support in the following areas:

Key responsibilities of this exciting position include:
Graphic design for education materials, posters, websites etc
Taking and formatting of photographs for media, reports, documents
Taking and editing videos for online content
Basic coding for website materials
Simple motion graphics
Requirements:
A post-school qualification in multi-media and two years’ work experience or four years of relevant work experience.
Experience with at least two of the following software packages: Adobe Photoshop; Indesign; Illustrator; Premier; AfterEffects; Rush (please show levels of experience and other software you might be familiar with)
Experience in web development languages such as HTML; CSS; Javascript (please list any other code language you have experience in)
A commitment to social justice and activism.
An interest in progressive politics.
Highly organised: able to plan, multi-task and meet deadlines.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to execute different styles of work in a consistent matter and have a high attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Ability to speak and write in another South African language (preferably isiXhosa or Afrikaans).
Illustration and animation skills.

The portfolio should show an ability to adapt to a range of styles, produce work that is consistent, shows attention to detail and be of a high production value. There should be between 6 and 10 samples of work. Please try to include as many different formats as possible. Make sure the portfolio is accessible and easy to navigate.
