MRM & MINING SAFETY OFFICER (PATERSON BAND CU)
Letšeng seeks to engage a qualified Mosotho professional with appropriate skills and aptitude to fill the position of MRM & Mining Safety Officer (Paterson Band CU).
PURPOSE: To guide Mineral Resource Management and Mining Departments to implement HSE Management Systems, adopt policies, standards and practices to achieve zero harm to people and property and minimise environmental impact and enforce compliance with HSE standards and rules.
MAIN OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensure the implementation of health, safety and environment plans and programmes under the Mineral Resource Management and Mining Departments
• Guide baseline and issue-based risk assessments reviews
• Review quality of continuous risks assessments and coach line management and employees accordingly
• Carry out daily and planned inspections for Mining and Mineral Resources Management departments
• Carry out internal audits in line with ISO 45001 requirements, ISO 14001 requirements and Letšeng Diamond Mine’s HSE standards
• Oversee reporting of incidents and generate management information
• Conduct and facilitate incident investigations under the Mineral Resources management and Mining Departments
• Monitor incident reporting trends and generate management information
• Provide training on relevant systems and operational procedures related to Mining and Mineral Resources Management
• Carry out site-specific induction for new employees and refresher inductions for current employees
• Monitor implementation of critical control management programme
• Ensure continuous improvement of HSE systems by suggesting improvement projects and assisting with the execution of improvement projects
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Degree in Health and Safety plus a minimum of three (3) years of working experience as a Health and Safety Officer in the Mining or Construction industry or
• Diploma in a technical field plus relevant training health and safety courses and a minimum of five (5) years of working experience as a Health and Safety Officer in the Mining or Construction industry
• Possession of a valid driver’s licence
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
• Sound knowledge and practical experience in HSE system implementation and auditing
• Sound knowledge and understanding of the mining industry and the risks involved
• Sound knowledge and understanding of the health and work methods and techniques applied in the execution of outputs
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Candidates will be required to undergo the medical examination of fitness as per the requirements
• Registered with the Ministry of Labour and Employment as a Safety and Health Practitioner
TERMS & CONDITIONS
• The position is a 24-month fixed-term contract based on-site
