Job Description

The ACB is looking for an ambitious and driven M&E professional who would be motivated to assist the organisation, with the following:
Manage, improve and implement the existing monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system, in particular activity tracking, staff activity and workshop reports and evaluations, intermittent synthesis reports, timely donor reporting, publications and communications monitoring and recording and others related tasks.
Adapt and enhance the implementation and periodic revision of a well-functioning, efficient and holistic monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) system for ACB in close interaction with other ACB staff and as required by donors. The MEAL framework must consist of a diverse range of methods and mechanisms to measure and record the impact of the work of the ACB at national, regional, and international levels, with a focus on advocacy and process M&E. The employee must identify strengths and weaknesses, make recommendations for improvement, and implement agreed actions accordingly.

Contribute to the monitoring, maintenance, and revision of the organisational logframe and baseline as required, as well as producing new logframes where required, in conjunction with and consultation with ACB staff.
Produce draft narrative reports for all donor reports in a timely manner as required based on continuous output and outcome monitoring and provide strong support in this regard to the Executive Director. In this regard, the employee must familiarise with donor obligations for reporting and prepare timely draft reports. The employee must keep track of all due dates for donor reports and give the ACB team alerts and warnings in a timely manner where staff inputs are required.
Compile and share regular M&E reports with ACB staff as detailed in agreed M&E work plans derived from periodic organisational work plans.
Familiarise themselves with the ACB’s methods of internal learning and accountability, adopt their management over time and support the development of these systems in close collaboration with other ACB staff.
Familiarise themselves with the work of the ACB including its published work, its strategic plans, strategic direction, and contractual obligations to funders.
Contribute where possible to the further refinement, development, and implementation of ACB’s communication strategy together in consultation with the Communications team. Special attention must be paid to the work already underway by the communications team in terms of their monitoring and must be integrated into the employee’s work.
Interact and work in an integrated and supportive manner with the staff of ACB. The employee should set up regular meetings with the ACB team to keep abreast with the fast pace of the work and outcomes monitoring.
Familiarise themselves with the funders, partners, and target audiences of ACB.
Perform any other task that the Director may require, and which is necessary for the proper functioning of the work of ACB.
Use best endeavours to promote, conduct, improve, expand, develop, and protect the business and interests of ACB and its reputation and good name and reputation.
Carry out their duties in a proactive, professional and efficient manner.
Respect the full confidentiality of internal meetings and information of ACB as well as details of the business and financial affairs of ACB.
Timeously submit monthly work plans and reports in the formats outlined by the ACB, donor reports in the employee’s area of work as required from time to time, and any other administrative documentation that may be required e.g., invoices for expenses incurred in carrying out work duties.
Assist the Director and staff with any other tasks that arise, which the employee has the capacity to undertake, including necessary travel to represent the ACB at meetings and workshops.
The employee may be required to travel in South and Southern Africa in the course of his / her duties.
The employee will report to the Executive Director.
Required Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Attributes

The MEAL Officer must possess and be able to demonstrate:
A recognised M&E qualification, minimum Bachelors’ degree
A minimum of 10 years of organisational experience in M&E
Thorough familiarity with principles and current approaches to MEAL using both quantitative and qualitative methods
Proven English writing skills (based on writing samples)
Ability to work independently and to tight deadlines with minimal supervision
Ability to work well in teams
Good computer skills (writing, spreadsheets/databases)
Innovation and proactivity
The following will be an advantage:
A history of social/environmental activism
Desktop and/or field research
Work with a diversity of social actors, including smallholder farmers
Proficient in English
Contract length and remuneration
This is a full-time, 12-month contract position and is subject to ACB’s standard contracting conditions. Contract renewal is dependent on performance, the HR requirements of the organisation at the time and availability of funds. There will be a three-month probation period for this position.

Remuneration will be market-related, with the recognition that ACB is a not-for-profit organisation. Offers made will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience, responsibility, and qualifications.
