Liqhobong Mining Development Company (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Firestone Diamonds PLC, invites suitably qualified and competent Basotho to apply for the vacant positions of Mining Pit Superintendent X 2 in the Mining Department.

Job purpose

To oversee the operations and management of Mining activities, interfacing between the Mine Planning Section and the Contractor’s execution of Mine plans. Coordinating various Mining activities that includes drilling, blasting, loading and hauling, dump and stockpile management and pit services.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager-Mining, the incumbent will carry out the following duties and responsibilities;

  • Ensure that, the Contractor adheres to all terms of Mining Service Level Agreements;
  • Ensure compliance to local and international mining best practices and standards;
  • Ensure that Mining Operations adheres to Environmental Regulations and minimize any negative impact on the surrounding environment;
  • Supervise the maintenance and upkeep of Mining infrastructure and facilities, including stockpile, water sources, explosives storage, water pumps and all facilities owned by the Mine;
  • Ensure that the Mine Plans and schedules are adhered to as planned. The incumbent will be the custodian of enforcing Mining as planned;
  • Coordinate logistics related to mobilisation of required resources and stocking of minimum quantities of inputs like explosives, fuel and accessories;
  • Ensure the Contractor Pit Safety Management Plan is adhered to and enforced at all times;
  • Liaise with the Contractor Company regarding changes to schedules as dictated by circumstances;
  • Initiate and establish working instructions and mining procedures to standardize the activities;
  • Draft Budget requests and manage the allocated budget for the achievement of set mining plans;
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans to handle situations such as Medical Emergencies, Natural Disasters, or other unexpected events in the Mining operations;
  • Maintain accurate records of all mining activities, maintenance schedules, incident reports, and other relevant documentation;
  • Keep stakeholders informed about mining operations, developments, and any issues that may arise;
  • Managing adhoc work activities and day works in the Mining operations
  • Manage the Contractor industrial climate to enable work processes to run uninterrupted;
  • Ensure sectional adherence and compliance to SHE programs, practices and campaigns
  • Conduct Risk assessments/audits in the Mining operations.

Legal and other requirements

  • Police clearance and Medical examinations of fitness;
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to undergo the Mine’s Integrity Tests.

Qualifications and experience

  • 8 years’ relevant experience in the Mining operations of which three (3) years in a Supervisory role in preferably in Open Pit Mining;
  • Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent;
  • Mine Blast Ticket/License or equivalent.
