MINING FOREMAN
GENERAL JOB PURPOSE
Mothae Diamonds has a mine-based vacancy for a Mining Foremen whose main purpose will be to ensure the safe and efficient achievement of the mining production objectives by leading a shift team of staff and earthmoving machinery. The individual will provide effective leadership and supervision, evaluating and upholding of the required performance standards, exercising control and co-ordination of personnel and resources, ensuring conformance to all Mine policies & procedures, conducting risk analysis on an ongoing basis, and supporting the objectives of Mothae Mine.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinating the mining of kimberlite ore and/or basalt waste in accordance with the Mine’s production objectives and schedules.
- Ensure that mining activities are performed safely and in compliance with Company procedures, policies, and relevant regulations.
- Liaise with the Blasting personnel regarding blasting times, movement of equipment and personnel, roadblocks, and any other related matters; participates in the development of short-term mining and blast plans.
- Ensures ongoing maintenance of haul roads to agreed standards.
- Supervises and coordinates the execution of earthworks for infrastructure projects.
- Coordinates and communicates with the other Foremen and section personnel to ensure the correct sequencing of operations.
- Performing identified administrative duties according to legal and procedural requirements.
- Plans, leads, organizes, and controls shift activities, and effectively leads and supervises shift personnel.
- Liaise and communicate effectively with Mining management and with staff from other sections and departments.
- Ensure adherence to Mothae Security and SHE procedures and protocols.
- May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12/COSC
- A formal Mining qualification will be advantageous
- Competent A certificate will be highly advantageous
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE
- Minimum of 5 years mining supervisory experience
- Knowledge and experience of open pit mining practices and related production environments
- Have very good general technical and application knowledge of earthmoving machines, maintenance procedures, safety controls, and general mining machine application.
- Be knowledgeable in Safety, Health and Environmental legislation and standards
- Be computer literate and conversant with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Have excellent organizational, planning, and team leadership skills
- Have good problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Be a good verbal and written communicator, with good writing and reporting skills
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Medical examination of fitness
- Valid vehicle driver’s licence
- No past or outstanding criminal conviction
