PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Accountable for coordinating and integrating the overall short-term operational mine planning process within the assigned operational area to ensure that all plans (mine and supporting resources) are optimised, realistic, relevant and precise, and to gather and provide daily production data for reporting

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & RELATED EXPERIENCE
• 5 Years’ practical experience in the mining environment, (preferably in open pit or open cast mining environment)
• National Higher Diploma in Mining, Survey or Equivalent

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  1. Coordinating and integrating the overall short-term mine planning process within the assigned operational area.
    • This will include the gathering and review of data and information related to labour needs, ore reserves, orebody characteristics, achieved production results and other technical supporting documents to construct mine plans with associated supporting plans for resources on a day-to-day to a month-to-month basis.
  2. Resources Planning (Labour, Logistics etc.):
    • Gather data and information related to resources required for operations.
    • Analyse and interpret resources data and information.
    • Construct best fit resources plans to meet production targets and requirements.
    • Review resources plans and adjust according to business requirements.
    • Monitor adherence to resources plans.
  3. Mine Plans & Designs
    • Gather mining reserve and mineral resource data and information for the operational area.
    • Maintenance of data and information in a database.
    • Analyse, manipulate and interpret data and information on a “sectional” basis and use the information to identify risks and trends.
    • Quantify the impacts of risks.
    • Develop short-term impact mitigation scenarios such that they are viable and realistic.
    • Construct and implement solutions to minimise the business risk.
    • Development and construction of short-term mine plans and business models consistent with the achievement of production targets.
    • Mine plans to be aligned with Kao’s drive towards zero harm, Technical Services and Corporate Strategy as well as legal requirements.
    • Maintenance of mine plans and designs aligned to changes agreed.
    • Monitor adherence to mine plans and designs.
    • Mine plans to be relevant, consistent and accurate in respect of the ore body characteristics and operational requirements.
    • Mine plans and designs to be reviewed regularly in order to optimise and maximise the mining throughputs.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Working knowledge of information management systems and processes
• Familiar with mining industry and open pit/-cast mining practices
• Knowledge of applicable mine standards and health and safety regulations and requirements
• Knowledge of mine, labour and other required resources planning practices and principles and planning systems/software packages
• Knowledge of quality management principles and practices
• Working knowledge and exposure to mine planning platforms, mine designs and layouts.
• Working knowledge of Survey practices and systems
• Report writing skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience and extensive/advanced use of mine planning software i.e. Wittle, GEMS Mine2-4D, CADSMINE, AutoCAD, Surpac, GIS or similar / essential

• Previous exposure and extensive use of mine planning software i.e. Mine2-4D, CADSMINE, AutoCAD, Surpac, GIS, Sable or similar will be highly advantageous
