Type of Contract: Fixed‑Term (3 months)


Programme Background

The objective of this project is to implement activities that support the attainment and maintenance of epidemic control in Lesotho by delivering HIV prevention, care, and treatment services. The programme targets children, adolescents, youth, pregnant and breastfeeding women, adults living with HIV, and sub‑populations at risk of HIV infection in Maseru, Mafeteng, Mohale’s Hoek, and Thaba‑Tseka districts.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • C.O.S.C. or LGCSE
  • At least five (5) years’ prior work experience in HIV/TB programming
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in the implementation of the Mentor Mother Model will be an added advantage
  • Accredited certificate in HTS (HIV Testing and Counselling)

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, remain calm, and exercise sound judgment
  • Knowledge of HIV prevention, care, and treatment interventions, including adherence
  • Ability to work effectively with communities, diverse stakeholders, and in a multicultural environment

Key Performance Areas

Routine Service Delivery

Mentor Mothers will be responsible for:

  • Providing health education and support to pregnant women, mothers, and their companions on EMTCT, TB, SRH, and NCDs at community level
  • Providing comprehensive HIV Testing Services (HTS), including recency testing for PBFW and Dry Blood Spot (DBS) viral load testing at community level
  • Linking HIV‑positive PBFW and children to ART initiation at facilities or scheduled community outreach points
  • Conducting PrEP screening for PBFW at community level and linking eligible clients for initiation at nearby facilities
  • Conducting Enhanced Adherence Counselling (EAC) for unsuppressed viral load and non‑adherent PBFW and children under five on ART
  • Conducting anthropometric measurements for PBFW and children under five and accurately recording results in clinical documentation
  • Providing holistic management of Advanced HIV Disease (AHD) services for children under five, including screening and linkage to vaccination services such as BCG
  • Conducting mental health screening for PBFW and children and linking eligible clients for further assessment and management
  • Conducting TB screening for PBFW and children, supporting stool collection for TB diagnosis, and linking presumptive cases to community clinical partners and nearby health facilities
  • Screening eligible clients for TB Preventive Therapy (TPT) and linking those eligible for initiation
  • Conducting household visits and facilitating linkages for further TB diagnostic services
  • Participating in integrated outreach activities and supporting linkages to HIV, TB, and RMNCAH services
  • Conducting health education and demand creation for SRH, ANC 1, and NCD (including cervical cancer) services
  • Liaising with community leaders, CBOs, CSOs, and Village Health Workers (VHWs) to coordinate community events and schedules
  • Conducting community case finding for high‑risk PBFW and children and linking to facilities for emergency obstetric and paediatric care
  • Conducting targeted paediatric HIV case finding through index testing
  • Providing targeted case management for Children Living with HIV (CLHIV) to improve treatment outcomes
  • Screening PBFW and children for nutritional supplements, deworming, and Vitamin A supplementation
  • Conducting risk stratification of antenatal and postnatal clients and facilitating psychosocial support groups
  • Providing relevant programmatic feedback to the District Coordinator on performance, gaps, and support needs
Data Reporting
  • Accurately documenting MOH HTS tools at community level
  • Collecting and compiling reports for submission to the Project Coordinator and M&E Officer
  • Collaborating consistently with facility staff on supply chain management processes
  • Ensuring all client records are accurately completed for client management and follow‑up
