Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Board of Directors, the Medical Superintendent will be responsible for the planning, organisation, and evaluation of medical services of the hospital.

Job requirements:

Primary roles

  • Managing the strategic and the day-to-day operations of the entire hospital clinical and managerial ensuring that all departments are fully and comprehensive staffed to the extent possible and liaising with and supervising all clinical departments, nursing, and nonmedical staff to ensure delivery of medical services of high quality within the faith-based environment.
  • Balancing the work of the physician with the administrative work
  • Ensuring that there is strict adherence to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that patients receive the high standard of medical care.
  • Being responsible for the performance of physicians under your supervision
  • Ensuring that all healthcare regulations and safety standards are met.
  • Keeping staff updated on new healthcare regulations.
  • Finding ways to improve clinical services.
  • Facilitates, development and management of hospital operational plan annually.
  • Reports his whereabouts to the executive management committee.

Managerial responsibilities

  • Reports to the Board of Directors
  • Compile hospital annual report for approval of Board of Directors
  • Compile clinical quarterly report to Management and present to the Board of Directors.
  • Provides strategic leadership to the hospital: Ensures a current and living strategic plan and that operational plans align to these documents.
  • Supervises senior hospital management team activities by ensuring that patients and staff concerns and needs are attended to and that departments are managed proactively with a view to improving efficiency and maintaining professional etiquette.
  • Supervises medical team and compliance of national guidelines by each doctor.
  • Ensures that the drawn doctor’s monthly schedule is followed up and availability of doctor at work.
  • Compiles and analyses monthly, quarterly, and annual hospital report from all the departments
  • Ensures that MO in-charge of the ward together with the nurse in charge prepare and submit the ward report to his office.
  • Presents hospital performance to the Management and Board monthly, quarterly, and annually.

Development of Medical Services

  • Identify the area of needs of the medical team and facilitates capacity building.
  • Organizes and facilitates capacity-building sessions through mentoring, coaching, in-service trainings, and continuing medical education (CME).
  • Initiates research to promote evidenced based medical care.

Coordinating Services

  • Liaise with administration, nursing, and medical staff.
  • Collaborates with DMO to harmonize medical services in the district.

Qualifications and work experience:

  • Medical degree plus Master of Health Administration (MHA) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) will be an added advantage.
  • Valid medical license.
  • 3 years clinical experience.
  • At least 1 year experience in a managerial role in any unit.
  • Clinical Risk Management experience.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
