Duty Station: Baylor COE Maseru

Possible placement at one of Baylor Lesotho’s Satellite sites:  Mokhotlong,

ButhaButhe, Mohale’s Hoek, Qacha’s Nek, Leribe

Reports to:                        Deputy Medical Director

Classification      :              Full-time, fixed term, one year, with possibility of renewal

The medical officers will actively provide medical services to infants, children, adolescents, and adults at all BCMCF-Lesotho sites regarding prevention, care and treatment of HIV, TB, and related conditions

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide direct clinical care services to children and families at the COE& SCOEs.
  • Provide direct clinical care services to adolescents at the Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital Baylor Adolescent Clinic.
  • Participate in the stabilisation of paediatric and adult patients in emergency situations and transfer of such patients to hospital settings.
  • Identify clients with suspected or confirmed HIV treatment failure and present to ART Advisory Committee as needed.
  • Maintain proper record keeping of all activities with regard to patient care, national statistics and research activities.
  • Participate in the training and mentoring of clinical staff and visiting scholars at the COE on paediatric HIV and TB/HIV prevention, diagnosis and management.
  • Perform training and mentorship of health professionals at hospitals and health centres on paediatric HIV and TB/HIV as requested or directed by the Deputy Clinical Director.
  • Identify one activity or project for involvement as professional development. 

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Medical degree – MD, MBBS, MBChB
  • Registered with Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Council as a General Practitioner
  • Knowledge and experience in paediatric HIV and TB/HIV clinical care is an added advantage
  • Knowledge and experience in quality improvement is an added advantage

KEY COMPETENCIES:

·   Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues in a team environment, willing to work beyond normal working hours
