Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Medical Superintendent, the Medical Officer will be responsible for managing and caring for patients, coordinating public health activities, and managing health services within the hospital.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the management of wards and conduct regular ward rounds
- Actively participate in general ward duties
- Maintain medical records and registers as directed by the Medical Superintendent
- Perform physical examinations and arrange routine investigations
- Maintain detailed and accurate patient notes
- Evaluate patient symptoms, determine appropriate diagnoses, and conduct research where necessary
- Provide guidance on disease prevention and control
- Prepare and present monthly ward case reports to the Medical Superintendent
- Coordinate clinical presentations and knowledge‑sharing sessions
- Supervise junior medical staff
- Maintain and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and clinical protocols
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or MD
- Registration with the Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Council
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Senior Houseman or Medical Officer
