Interactive Research and Development South Africa (IRD SA NPC) is a South African Section 21 not-for-profit entity and an affiliate of Interactive Research and Development Global (IRD Global Limited), and has fully operational offices in Johannesburg (Gauteng) and in Durban (KwaZulu-Natal).

Position Summary

Overall development and mentoring of health personnel on the implementation of quality diagnosis, treatment and care and assist with quality improvement in care of TB, DR-TB and TB-HIV comorbidity patient at all public healthcare facilities within district/sub-district. Provide specialized direct patient care, mentorship, leadership, collaboration, consultation, education and research to reach the South Africa Global Fund TB Grant Project’s objectives and goals.

Duties:
Operational management of clinical services by management of burden of disease, care towards increased testing, linking, successfully treating and retaining in care patients with TB, (DR-TB) and TB-HIV and training healthcare personnel with in the district/sub-district, i.e hospitals, CHC’s, clinics, mobiles and satellites
Liaise with sub-district Team and local primary and secondary care healthcare professionals to assess, work up and consent eligible patients and initiate treatment in District/Sub-district, i.e Hospitals, CHC’s, clinics, mobiles and satellites focusing on the DR-TB centralised and decentralised facilities/sites
Monitor clinical progress of patients receiving TB, DR-TB and TB-HIV treatment and provide medical support to clinicians and other health care workers in the management of these patients
Identify, document all adverse events in all TB, DR-TB and TB-HIV patients in the district, even if subsequently managed outside of district as consultant and file reports on all serious adverse events to department of health, relevant pharmaceutical companies, regulatory authorities and programme co-ordinator/s
Ensure audit compliance with core metrics of TB, DR-TB and TB-HIV programmes to improve quality care delivery
Ensure clinical record keeping adheres to criteria.
Apply infection control measures within the practice according to district and national guidelines
Ensure safe storage, monitoring, rotation and disposal of medication is undertaken
Serve as a consultant to imbed new methodologies and protocols specifically on TB, DR-TB and HIV-TB
Train and mentor on implementation of latest and updated TB, DR-TB and HIV-TB South Africa prevention, diagnostic and treatment guidelines as prescribe by National Department of Health
Attend clinical meetings related to TB, DR-TB and TB-HIV in district on behalf of organisation and provide feedback to team
Assist the rest of the team with activities related to monitoring and evaluation, operational research and related patients psychosocial support
Provide technical support with regards to clinical governance in the district
REQUIREMENT:
Minimum educational qualification MBCHB OR equivalent qualification applicable
Current recognised registration with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
Experience working with Multi/Extensive Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis after the time when applicant became registerable with HPCSA
South African citizenship or a valid work visa
Strong verbal, written and presentation skills in English and at least one other South African language
Valid unendorsed code 8 driver’s licence
EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of South Africa’s current evident-based TB/DR-TB and TB-HIV investigations and treatment
At least two years’ experience in managing TB, DR-TB and TB-HIV care and treatment and strong interest in the care and treatment of people with RR-TB
Preferred experience in patient management in public primary care-based facilities in South Africa
Knowledge and sensitivity to working with multi-cultural groups
Experience in TB/DR-TB and TB-HIV program monitoring and evaluation
In developing and making professional presentations to present to relevant stakeholders
