MSF is a global network of principled medical and other professionals working in teams, small and large, to respond to the medical needs of people affected by conflict, disasters and epidemics and those excluded from healthcare.

MSF seeks to appoint the Medical doctor (Covid-19 Response) to be based in King Cetshwayo District, KwaZulu-Natal – 1 month (extendable, according to needs)

Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care at DOH hospitals in King Cetshwayo District, KwaZulu-Natal according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF and DOH protocols, values and universal hygiene standards in order to provide quality care to patients.

Responsibilities:
Perform ward rounds for COVID-19 patients and people under investigation at the assigned hospital
Decide on the management plan for patients admitted to the COVID-19 wards, follow-up on implementation of this plan and adjust the plan based on results of further investigations and the developing patient’s condition
Assist in improving COVID-19 screening and testing at hospital OPD and casualty, including use of correct PPE and ensuring good patient flow.
Perform on-job training to MDs and nurses working in the COVID-19 wards and in the red zones at the hospital OPD and casualty
Implement and observe IPC standard precautions
Ensure patient files and registers are filled out correctly
Requirements:
Medical Doctor degree
Diploma in HIV/TB medicine or infectious disease desirable
2 years previous experience as a medical doctor in clinical work desirable; experience in internal medicine desirable
Excellent communication skills; fluent in English; isiZulu desirable
Excellent performance under stress in emergency context
Willingness to learn and develop on the job
Flexibility to attend to other MSF related activities when called upon
South African Citizen or holder of a valid South African work permit
