PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Under the direct supervision of the Emergency and Medical Coordinator, the M&E Intern will be expected to coordinate and lead emergency preparedness and rescue activities, provide advice on the development and implementation of emergency patient management services, oversee and ensure operational readiness for emergency calls, administer patient care in line with scope of practice and assisting in the overall implementation of the Health and Safety Management System.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in emergency care
  • National Diploma in Emergency Care or National Diploma in any medically related field e.g. medicine, nursing as a minimum
  • Advanced Life support
  • Intermediate Life support (AEA) Certificate, Advanced or Basic Ambulance Assistant Certificate
  • Experience in Emergency care settings will be an added advantage
  • A valid driver’s license with advanced driving certificate
  • Registered with either the Lesotho Nursing Council or Medical, Pharmaceutical and Dental Council of Lesotho

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Emergency Preparedness:
  • Participate in Emergencies risk assessments to identify hazards for designated areas,
  • Develop, review Emergency Response Plans for Kao Mine, and surrounding communities
  1. Emergency Resource and Development:
  • Ensure availability of medical equipment and emergency equipment.
  • Provide Emergency management and response related trainings and maintain records
  • Perform emergency drills through simulation exercises, develop and implement the action plan on findings
  • Identify medical equipment requirements
  1. Hazardous Chemical Management:
  • Monitor Hazardous Chemical Substances
  • Monitor chemical substances have material safety data sheets
  • Ensure users receive training on safe chemicals handling
  • Conduct monthly inspections of Hazardous chemicals stores
  • Conduct and update Compatibility studies for chemical storage
  1. Aviation Medical Management
  • Coordinate all medical referrals
  • Conduct patient assessment to identify if patient meet criteria
  • Ensure safe landing of helicopter and safe loading of patients
  • Ensure availability of emergency equipment when required
  1. Radiation Safety
  • Conduct quarterly inspections of radiation sources
  • Report any abnormal findings to the M&E Supervisor
  • Develop and implement action plan on findings
  • Train employees on Radiation Safety
