JOB TITLE : MEDIATOR

GRADE :I

RESPONSIBLE TO : MEDIATION ADMINISTRATOR

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of Deputy Registrar, the incumbent is responsible for management of Court Annexed Mediation (CAM) and administration of justice.

MAIN DUTIES

  1. TO MANAGE MEDIATION
    1.1. Set a date for mediation session with parties.
    1.2 Inform Mediation Administrator of the set dates.
  2. TO CONDUCT LEGAL AND TECHNICAL RESEARCH
    2.1 Peruse parties’ case summaries to identify relevant issues.
  3. TO ADMINISTER JUSTICE
    3.1 Explain Court-Annexed Mediation process to the parties.
    3.2 Conduct mediation session
    3.3 Draft settlement agreement and ensure that it is signed by parties.
    3.4 Ensue that the settlement agreement is made an order of court.
    3.5 File the settlement agreement and mediation report in the court file.
  4. TO MONITOR THE COURT-ANNEXED MEDIATION
    1.1 Prepare weekly returns.
    1.2 Prepare list of cases allocated, settled, completed and those referred to litigation.
    1.3 Compile monthly report.

JOB SPECIFICATION
Master of Law (LLM) plus four (4) years relevant working experience.
Or
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) plus five (5) years relevant working experience

• Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Mechanisms would be an added advantage.

RESPONSIBILITY
For work of others: The incumbent takes full responsibility for performance of staff under his/her supervision.
For property: Minimal For effect of Errors: The incumbent is responsible for all errors committed in the execution of his/her duties.

Authority for decision making: The incumbent has the authority for management of staff under his/her supervision.
Problem solving: The incumbent must. be capable of decisively dealing with problems arising from offices under his/her supervision, clients, misconduct of staff and resolving conflicts.

Supervision received: The incumbent is expected to work independently and report to the Registrar.

EFFORT
Mental effort: The job requires a high level of concentration on thinking strategically, planning, coordinating, budgeting and organizing.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Hazards: Likelihood of attack by dissatisfied individuals.
