Unitebehind seeks to appoint a Media and Communications intern to join our small dedicated team based in Cape Town
Start Date: Duration of the contract the successful applicant will be required to start as soon as possible.
Employment Type: Contract will terminate 31 December 2020
The purpose of this position is to find someone that is passionate about building a just and equal society then consider joining the #UniteBehind. #UniteBehind is a civil society coalition of organisations and people’s movements that organise around common campaigns and local struggles. Their struggle is for a just and equal society – a democracy in which people participate in decisions affecting their lives.
Responsibilities:
Assist in developing of a media strategy for #UniteBehind campaigns.
Assist in developing content for social media and maintenance of website.
Assist in the writing of media statements as well as opinion and investigative pieces on #UniteBehind’s campaigns.
Facilitate media interviews on relevant issues and campaigns for assigned #UniteBehind representatives.
Produce regular updates for the #FixOurTrains campaign members and supporters.
Requirements:
Diploma/Degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field or relevant experience
Writing skills in English and at least one other language (Afrikaans, IsiXhosa or, IsiZulu is preferred).
Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and knowledge of web design, Social analytical tools, WordPress, photo/video editing software, will be an advantage).
Understanding of the usage of social media for Civil Society organisations
Strong work ethic, integrity and a commitment to social justice.
Ability to work in a team and under pressure and a demonstrated willingness to learn new things.
