Position: Mechanic

Purpose of the Position
To ensure the effective, safe, and uninterrupted operation of all plant, equipment, vehicles, machinery, and facilities used in the farming operations of SanLei Trout at the Katse Dam site.

Key Performance Areas
The Mechanic will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Diagnosing mechanical problems correctly and carrying out precise repairs to ensure vehicle and machinery safety and reliability
  • Completing work quickly and effectively, minimizing wasted time and maximizing productive hours
  • Ensuring full compliance with preventive maintenance schedules to reduce breakdowns and increase vehicle and machinery longevity
  • Maintaining a safe working environment and adhering to industry regulations and safety standards
  • Keeping detailed records of work performed and parts used
  • Managing tools, spare parts, and overall workshop housekeeping
  • Supporting operations across different farm sites when required

Qualifications and Experience
Minimum requirements include:

  • Certificate in Automotive Studies
  • At least three (3) years of proven experience as a Mechanic
  • Proven ability to lead a medium-sized team
  • Thorough understanding of, and experience with, mechanical components of machinery
  • Possession of a full driver’s license and a range of licenses to operate relevant equipment

The ideal candidate should demonstrate:

  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems
  • Manual dexterity and the ability to use hand and power tools
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Awareness of health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively and work to strict deadlines
  • Willingness to work weekends and longer hours when required
  • Team-player attitude with good communication skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with a focus on continuous improvement
