Position
Matron
Overview
The Matron is responsible for the promotion and restoration of patients’ health by developing effective day‑to‑day management and long‑term planning of patient care. The role includes directing and developing staff, collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary professionals, and providing physical and psychological support to patients, families, and friends.
Job Specifications
Education
- Graduate from a recognised nursing institution with:
- A Diploma in Midwifery; and
- A Degree in General Nursing or equivalent
- A postgraduate qualification in Health or Management Studies will be an added advantage
- Registration with the Lesotho Nursing Council is mandatory
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years’ working experience in a hospital
- At least three (3) years must have been in senior management positions
Job Knowledge
- Thorough understanding of patient care processes
- Familiarity with emergency procedures, pharmacology, and safety standards
- Strong skills in nursing care, communication, problem‑solving, information and communication technology
- Proven ability to apply managerial skills, including planning and budgeting processes
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Ensure nursing staff comply with healthcare and hospital policies, regulations, procedures, and standards
- Assure and provide quality healthcare services to patients and all concerned
- Protect patients, relatives, visitors, employees, and the community against nosocomial infections
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment suitable for a healthcare facility
- Ensure availability, proper operation, and maintenance of essential medical equipment
- Achieve financial and general organisational objectives essential for a commercial private hospital
