Marketing & Communications Leader

Plans and produces marketing communications and sales promotion materials to meet product strategies and sales objectives.

Manages internal and/or external communications such as press releases, video, newsletters, corporate presentations, websites, apps, social media, and blogs.

Identifies and shares best practices in area of expertise whether it be media placement, digital marketing, press relations, or other areas.

Develops short- and long-term communication objectives.

Oversees communication activities including technical and/or promotional material writing, product manuals, brochures, sales kits, etc.

Interacts with product management, sales management, and external suppliers to develop and implement integrated communication plans.

Builds key media and communications contacts such as integrated contact management.

Consults with business leadership to establish brand communication strategies and ensure communication, planning, and monitoring is effectively meeting the needs of customers.

Manages brand communication research and supports the implementation of the brand strategy and guidelines.

Manages, coaches, and develops staff; works with employees to set goals in training and development, performance, and career planning.

Identifies department issues, problems, and opportunities to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Develops and manages budget, financial controls, and risk ensuring operations are executed efficiently and within established budgets.

Establish, monitor and report key performance metrics.

(Digital Marketing Managers only:) Develop and oversee various digital marketing tools including planning and implementing changes and improvements. Tools may include blogs, email newsletters, websites, and social media accounts,

Skills

Focus On Customer Needs – Basic understanding of customers.

Develop Communication Plans – Knowledge of current communication methods. Provides input to and implements the communication plan for a specific product, market, process, etc. Knows the audience and the tools used to reach the audience. Able to tell others about the communication plan.

Message Creation – Uses a message triangle or appropriate materials when creating communication or training materials.

Create Marketing Collateral Materials – Knows the process to create marketing collateral pieces and able to lead the process using the approved tool. Approves copy and layouts for production. Coordinates with the printer and understands the differences in types of paper, benefits versus costs of number of colors, and types of finishes on collateral materials. Manages the distribution and/or fulfillment processes.

Graphics Design – Has the ability to guide suppliers in the creation of graphics.

(Digital Marketing Managers only:) Digital Marketing Communications Strategy/Management:

Digital Publishing – Understands and can display proficiency using common digital publishing concepts and platforms (content management systems, websites, social media, digital signage, mobile apps, etc.)

Digital Campaign Planning – Knowledge of common digital marketing campaign tactics (E-mail, search engine optimization/marketing. social media marketing, digital display advertising). Provides direction and has the ability to guide team on campaign planning activities.

Digital Communications Design and Development – knows the processes to create digital collateral and able to lead the process using the approved tools. Understands digital media types and the basic concepts of content management, user centered design and A/B version testing.

Metrics and Analytics – Determines metrics and interprets analytics to evaluate effectiveness; develop and implement dashboards for performance reporting.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university, or equivalent degree in marketing, communications or a related subject required.

Experience

Significant level of relevant work experience, including supervisory experience, required. Customer facing experience preferred.

  • Develops and owns the Marketing Communications strategy for the ABO, including its JVs – the objective, mediums, approach, messaging
  • Collaborates with Business Segment Leaders (e.g. EBU, NRP, DBU, Power Gen, Filtration) to develop Integrated Marketing Plans (IMPs) that are aligned to the overall Segment strategy
  • Balances team capacity, budget and other resources between internal and external work – i.e. between Corporate and Marketing Communications (~70% external)
  • Responsible for developing ROI and other metrics to demonstrate the value of MarComm spend across segments and key initiatives, and then sharing/discussing those results with AME LT
  • Responsible for building capability in their direct MarComm team, plus transferring basic knowledge and skills to business, sales and other leaders across the ABO
  • Is the key/formal representative back to Corporate for Marketing Communications – the Leader forms, maintains and leverages key relationships with MarComm leaders in Indianapolis, in the BUs, and in the other ABOs.
