Corruption Watch is a non-profit organisation that has been fighting corruption in South Africa since January 2012. We rely on the public to report corruption to us. We use the reports as an important source of information to fight corruption and hold leaders accountable for their actions. We are the local chapter of Transparency International, the global movement working in over 100 countries to end the injustice of corruption.

Corruption Watch is seeking to appoint a Marketing and Communications Specialist, based in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

Key Requirements and Competencies
Qualifications and Experience

Tertiary degree in communications / marketing
At least 5 years experience in marketing and communications
Experience of and understanding of NGO sector

Knowledge

Understanding and knowledge of marketing and communications tools, and media industry
Knowledge of human rights, social justice / NGO environment
Some knowledge of current affairs
Social media strategies and metrics
Good grasp of marketing principles

Skills

Strong communication and marketing skills
Excellence in spoken and written English, and producing high-quality written material, including press releases and other communication materials
Proficiency in one or more indigenous South African language apart from English
Aptitude for creating marketing strategies, campaigns and materials
Social media skills, in particular management and oversight of social media channels
Computer literacy, with proficiency in MS Office especially Excel
Creative skills for communication across different platforms
Excellent interpersonal and people management skills
Ability to form and maintain relationships through teamwork and networking
Ability to coordinate and execute multiple deliverables
Time-management and organisational skills
Decision-making and problem-solving skills
Administration and budgeting skills

Areas of responsibility:

To assist in the planning, development and implementation of marketing and communications strategies. The role has responsibility, together with the head of communications, for marketing across the organisation, particularly focusing on media and digital channels with the aim of raising the Corruption Watch profile and brand. It also provides strategic direction to the marketing aspect of the public fundraising programme.
Specific tasks follow below:

Provide strategic leadership together with the head of communications in developing and implementing effective integrated marketing and communication strategies for the organisation, which includes:
Developing creative and innovative solutions and channels for raising the organisational profile through new marketing campaigns
Driving the organisation’s digital media strategy, together with the head of communications, overseeing the development and implementation of social and digital media campaigns, providing guidance to digital media officer
Together with the head of communications, conceptualising and implementing all media strategies and activities, providing guidance to media liaison
Devising and implementing advertising strategy, together with head of communications, including overseeing online advertising strategy and budget
Preparing content and graphics for all online campaigns and strategies
Managing lead generation and target audiences for CW newsletters

Together with head of communications, overseeing work of media liaison and digital media officer, providing guidance, developing capacity, and monitoring performance
Build and maintain relationships with wide range of service providers and stakeholders in the media, marketing and communications space.

The Marketing and Communications Specialist will work under the supervision of the head of communications.
