TITLE:  Marketing and Communication Manager ( Fixed Term Contract 1year)

DEPARTMENT: Technical Services

SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to oversee the design and implementation of PSI/Lesotho’s health communication activities, including both branded and generic media and interpersonal communication. The position is also responsible for ensuring PSI/Lesotho’s compliance with Regional Brand strategies and campaigns  and  managing  PSI/Lesotho’s  contributions  to  regional  marketing  and  communication initiatives.  And finally, the position manages all PSI brands and external relations, serving as PSI/Lesotho’s principal liaison with local and regional media.

This job is based at Maseru and reports to Programs Director.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Serve  as  PSI/Lesotho’s  technical  expert  on  health  communication,  gathering,  analyzing,  and disseminating current research and best practices from Lesotho, the region, and beyond. Support PSI/Lesotho in continued innovation and pursuit of quality in its communication activities.

  Develop the technical capacity of Communication Officers in health communication through continued mentoring and training.

    Represent PSI/Lesotho on external working groups, ensuring PSI’s place as an important collaborator on national efforts to improve the quality and coordination of health communications activities.

    Serve as PSI/Lesotho’s principal liaison with local media, promptly responding to media inquiries, implementing strategies to increase positive coverage of PSI/Lesotho programs and events, and developing

  Represent PSI/Lesotho at regional marketing and communication events and trainings.

    Actively contribute to the development of PSI’s regional marketing and communication activities, including the design of regional strategies and campaigns, and ensure PSI/Lesotho’s adherence to these strategies.

    Develop   relationships   with   private   corporations   to   secure   sponsorships   for   PSI/Lesotho communications initiatives.

    Design and initiate strategies to improve the quality of health communications approaches, including supervision of communications   activities   and   implementation   of   quality   controls   for   all communication materials and products developed by PSI/Lesotho.

    Design and facilitate implementation of annual marketing plan and all step-down documents, including communication workplan and creative briefs. Recommend adjustments to marketing plans, as needed, based upon current research findings and programmatic realities.

  Orient internal stakeholders (departmental Managers, Site Managers, etc.) to communication priorities,  including  behavioral  determinants,  target  groups,  and  communication  strategies, determined through marketing planning process.

    Ensure open, regular, and proactive communication with Social Marketing and HTS program staff (as well as those in other technical teams) to allow for optimal collaboration.

    Prepare illustrative budgets for communication campaigns and programs to support budgetary decision-making by social marketing and HTS program managers.

    Collaborate with Research department staff to design and implement effective pretesting strategies for all mass media and interpersonal communication activities.

   Serve as the Communication department’s point of contact with all other PSI/Lesotho departments.

   Effectively supervise the work of two technical specialists (Communication Officers).

    Establish and maintain relations with local and regional creative agencies, ensuring positive and efficient working relationships.

    Provide ongoing feedback and capacity building to creative partners (including, but not limited to, preferred vendors) in support of continued quality improvement.

    Develop and maintain positive working relationships with external stakeholders, including donors, government bodies, partners organizations, and subcontractors.

    Perform other tasks, as required.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

    Degree in Marketing, Communication, or related field. Graduate degree strongly preferred.

    At  least 5  years  relevant  experience  in  commercial  marketing,  social  marketing,  or  health communication. Experience working for an international NGO preferred.

    Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and take initiative to solve problems.

    Familiarity and practical experience with both interpersonal communication and mass media approaches. Clear understanding of a) current best practices in mass media and b) different types of IPC programming strongly preferred.

   Understanding of HIV/AIDS as a public health issue.

   Exceptional writing and presentation skills.

   Experience in the management of staff, including, preferably, technical specialists.

   Valid driver’s license.
