James House was established in 1986 in Hout Bay, Cape Town and today operates as an organisation focused on the well- being of vulnerable children. The organisation has developed capacities and responses in keeping with the transformation of the child and youth care sector. The main thrust is two programs encompassing a broad range of services at the early intervention, prevention and statutory levels.

James House seeks to appoint a Managing Director, based in Cape Town.

The key performance areas of this position include inter alia:

Provide overall strategic leadership and implementation oversight of all James House programmes.
Ensure proper governance oversight and compliance with all applicable legislation.
Maintain donor / stakeholder relationships and source new funding opportunities.
Devise financial strategy for long-term sustainability and ensure implementation and maintenance of financial management systems and donor reporting.
Human resource management and staff development.
Management of the implementation of monitoring and evaluation database / systems.
Advocate for and represent James House to external stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be required to have:

An appropriate tertiary qualification.
5 to 8 years senior management experience preferably gained in the Non-Profit child and youth care sector.
Strong strategic management and analytical skills.
A consultative management approach and a willingness to engage with and learn from the experience of others.
Experience and skills in human resource management, budgeting and financial management
Experience and skills in fundraising and building and maintaining donor / stakeholder relationships
Demonstrated communication and networking capabilities, including building partnerships with community and civil society organisations, corporate and government organisations.
Previous experience in evaluating impact assessment of monitoring and evaluation systems an added advantage.
Ability to carry high workload and work under pressure
Excellent written and spoken English. (Fluency in Afrikaans and /or isiXhosa an advantage though not essential)
High level of computer literacy
Drivers licence and own transport
